Rodriguez takes over for Stewart at Hesperia

Fernando Rodriguez accepted the job as the girls basketball coach at Hesperia High School.

Rodriguez will fill the position that has been vacant since Mike Stewart left to take over as the Victor Valley College women’s coach in March.

“I’m very excited because a lot of young girls are coming back,” Rodriguez said. “Coach Stewart left a good legacy and I hope to follow his footsteps.”

The Scorpions won the Mojave River League title this past season.

Rodriguez graduated from Hesperia in 2003 and had been a boys assistant coach at the school since 2004.

He will start his new coaching job by taking the team to UCLA for a basketball camp this weekend. The Scorpions will also play in a summer league at VVC in July.
