Softball Roundup 5-9-08: Patriots, Royals finish as Agape co-champs
HESPERIA — Hesperia Christian’s softball team avenged its only Agape League loss of the season with a 4-3 victory over Victor Valley Christian on Friday. The two teams finished as co-champions in the league.
The Patriots (21-3, 9-1 AL) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, then broke a 2-2 tie with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley McCloud hit a solo home run, and Angelica Rosales singled then came around to score after a stolen base and a wild pitch.
Sierra Rick went the distance for Hesperia Christian and stuck out 13 while giving up just four hits and three unearned runs.
Victor Valley Christian’s (20-3, 9-1 AL) Jenny Cady also threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs.
The Patriots will enter the CIF-Southern Section Division VII playoffs as the top seed from the league.
