Hesperia High grad Chris Smith has been called up to the Boston Red Sox again.

Smith, a pitcher in Boston’s farm system, left Triple-A Pawtucket for another chance in Boston on Tuesday.

The right-hander, who graduated from Hesperia in 1999 and went on to pitch for UC Riverside, got his first major-league call-up last month. The

Red Sox had planned to use him as a reliever, but he stayed in the bullpen as Jon Lester pitched a no-hitter. Smith was sent back down a day later.

Smith did not make an appearance in Boston’s 3-0 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday.
